First Reconciliation/Holy Communion
2019-2020 FIRST CONFESSION/FIRST COMMUNION FAMILIES - PLEASE READ
Dear First Communion families,
We are navigating in very strange times. The month of May has always been a time to celebrate that wonderful sacrament of First Communion and this year we are put into a holding pattern. The sacrament is a very special one. When our children celebrate this sacrament, they receive our Lord in a most intimate and special way. They come into communion with the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This sacrament requires that we are most serious about it and that we try to convey to our children as best as we possibly can the greatness and the privilege of the graces that we receive.
Father Mark and I have been discussing the best way to preserve the sanctity of the sacrament and to be certain that our children are truly prepared to celebrate it.
We will celebrate the sacrament in October (TBD). In order to prepare the children, we will take the first weeks of the 3rd grade classes and use them as a review for First Communion. The Workshop will be scheduled the Saturday prior to First Communion.
First Communion is a very special time in the lives of our children and we want them to have a memorable experience, but it must be a faith filled experience which is undertaken with an understanding of the importance of the sacrament.
We will set the calendar as soon as we have an idea what the Fall will look like. It is our hope that First Communion will be celebrated in the first 2 weeks of October.
Those parishioners whose children Christ Our King/Stella Maris School will attend the Workshop as part of their preparation at Saint Benedict.
Registration forms will be available on Monday, May 4th, 2020.
Once First Communion has been celebrated, we will resume the normal 3rd grade curriculum.
Thank you all for your continued support and understanding through these difficult times.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all and we look forward to the day when we can join together at Mass as a community in the celebration of our faith.
May the peace of Christ be with you all,
Louise Henesy, DRE
