When the Ministry meets – The ministry meets in the fall and in the spring for an annual training session which all Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion must attend.

Mission statement The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion will assist the Priest and Deacons in distributing Holy Communion at Mass in the church and to those in the hospital, nursing homes, and homebound. The Eucharist is the “source and Summit” of the Catholic Faith and requires those assisting in this special ministry to meet certain requirements.

Description of the Ministry- The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will assist the Priest and Deacons who are the Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at the weekday and weekend Liturgies. The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will also serve as Homebound Ministers bringing communion to those who are sick in the hospital, nursing homes, and at home.

The Homebound/Hospital Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serve as a vital link to parish community. The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for the homebound must go through a vetting process and attend an annual training workshop for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. The Homebound minister must also pass a background check and complete the requirements for the Diocese Safe Haven program.
