Mission: The goal of the Somerby Ministry is to provide spiritual support to the Catholic residents at Somerby of Mount Pleasant. This is provided in a twofold manner, and the ministers are scheduled by the month. Our ministers assist residents off and on the bus, who attend the 9:00 Sunday Mass, and help them to their pews. We are also attentive to any needs they have during Mass. Secondly, we have a rosary and Communion service every Wednesday at Somerby, and a Mass is held once a month. The residents also receive the benefits of private Confession, the Sacrament of the Sick, and ashes on Ash Wednesday.
Role in Heart to Witness: We witness our Faith by the commitment we make to the residents on a weekly basis.
Role in Heart to Pray: The appreciation shown by the Catholics at Somerby is evidence of the important role our ministers and priests provide for them in their spiritual lives.
Role in Heart to Serve: The Somerby Ministry goes out to a very special group in our parish, the elderly who deserve great respect, and who appreciate the kindness and compassion they receive, as they experience various illnesses in their old age. They also deserve a friendly smile and an encouraging word. It takes a joyful and loving heart to serve them. This is what our ministers bring to them.
