The Diocese of Charleston under the guidance of Bishop Robert Guglielmone has adopted a new charter in an effort to provide a safe environment to all God’s children entrusted to our care. The Policy Concerning Allegations of Sexual Misconduct or Abuse of a Minor by Church Personnel and the Code of Conduct for Church Personnel were adopted December, 2011 and will become effective on April 15, 2012.
All persons volunteering in positions which have regular access to children are required to complete a background screening form, attend a VIRTUS training session, sign a Code of Conduct and review Diocesan Policy concerning allegations and sign a document attesting to receipt of policy.
All persons volunteering in positions which involve handling money or making financial decisions for the parish are required to submit to a background screening.
We at St. Benedict are committed to our responsibility to provide our children with a safe, caring and nurturing environment. The policies set forth by the Diocese of Charleston help us to ensure this.
All paperwork is available in the Church office and on the Diocesan website. A copy of Diocesan policy is available in the Church Library. Information may also be accessed on the Diocesan website: www.catholic-doc.org
