Our Patron Saint --
Saint Benedict
Our Patron, St. Benedict, was chosen to give expression
to the parish mission.

St. Benedict was born at Nursia, near Rome during the fifth century. He
turned down a promising academic future and wealth. Adopting a simple
lifestyle for himself, he eventually became the founder of the world
famous monastery of Monte Cassino, just south of Rome, which still
flourishes today. This gentle saint, the founder of Western monasticism,
provided a home and community structure for ordinary people and created
a basic model of Christian life that calls for balance in daily living
including prayer, work, rest and recreation.
St. Benedict taught us to "build community" and to find God together,
while offering compassion and support for the poor and needy. In
establishing a Rule for beginners at his monastery, our patron saint
sought "to temper all things so that the strong may have something to
strive for and the weak will have nothing to dismay them."
The manner in which St. Benedict lived and taught is our model for
building our Church - our faith community - seeing the face of Christ in
those around us and striving to work toward our parish's collective
mission.
